The following sections will assist you in determining if you need the services of a marketing consultants and where their services will be most beneficial to your company.  The sections are not intended to be detailed guides for strategic marketing issues, but rather to serves as a diagnostic tool to highlight major areas in the strategic marketing process that need to be addressed and the types of decisions that need to be made.  If you find yourself at a particular point in your data collection, analysis, or interpretation stage and are having problems at that stage, you may need the services of Market Researcher. 

Throughout these sections we will be referring to the terms: consumer and customer.  At the most generic level, a consumer is someone who consumes a product or service while a customer is the one who buys or purchases a product or service.  The two terms may seem similar, but they have different meanings from a marketing perspective.  For instance, there are situations when the customer and consumer are the same person, as is the case when someone purchases a product/service for their own personal consumption.  However, there are also situations in which the two entities are separate as in the case of trade customers (i.e., wholesalers and distributors) that purchases products and services and then resells them to other business or to the final consumer.  So please take note and remember this distinction as you read through the various sections.
